Karnataka Housing Board’s (KHB)

1) 1. KHB’s New Housing Proposal

The Karnataka Housing Board has proposed a 772‑acre residential housing development near the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) in Devanahalli, aimed at addressing the growing demand for housing driven by industrial and urban expansion.

The project will offer residential plots and affordable homes, particularly targeted at economically weaker sections, along with essential infrastructure like roads, water supply, and sanitation.

Land acquisition is planned across five villages—Vishwanathapura, Vajarahalli, Beerasandra, Shanappanahalli, and Managondanahalli—with specific areas demarcated for each.

KHB will proceed using a 50:50 model, where landowners are offered 50% of the developed land in lieu of monetary compensation.

2) Context: Prior Land Acquisition Controversy

Earlier, the state government had proposed acquiring 1,777 acres in Devanahalli for a defence and aerospace park—a plan that faced widespread opposition from farmers.

In July 2025, following more than three years of sustained protests, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced withdrawal of the compulsory acquisition, deciding instead to proceed only with voluntary land contributions and fairer compensation terms.
